Got a Langer’s pastrami sandwich for lunch and am going to have some homecooked Korean meal for dinner. What could’ve been better than having Jewish and Korean food to wrap up my stay in SoCal?
Hmm.
Actually, throwing in a a breakfast burrito would’ve been golden. Oh well, I’ll try to remember that for my next trip back here…
Gonna catch some Z’s, shower, eat, then head out to face the 17 hour direct flight to Singapore.

We’re finally back in Los Angeles. Yep, I say FINALLY because this Michigan trip was kind of rough from start to finish. Bryan’s still making the runs from an upset stomach which started 3 days ago now. We also had to drive about 5 hours from Torch Lake to Detroit to catch our flight out to Los Angeles, and almost got bumped from our flight because it was overbooked. Whew! Oh, but we at least made it to the wedding and stayed there for about 3 hours until Bryan’s stomach forced us out of it.
The highlight of our trip was our run in with Henry Winkler aka “Fonz” from Happy Days aka “Barry Zuckercorn” from Arrested Development on our flight. (My first real Hollywood celebrity sighting!!) Being a big tv star, he naturally got mobbed by people at the waiting area, on the flight, etc. SO we (Bryan) tried a different approach and, instead of taking a camera to take a photo with him or his boarding pass to ask for his signature as the opening line, Bryan gathered up courage and made small talk with him about the Arrested Development movie and cast (which he raved about!), trying to scoop out information. Winkler was really gracious and very indulgent! Super nice!
Bryan’s gotten better healthwise since landing in Los Angeles, much to our relief. We’re not ruling out Michigan but it might be awhile till our next visit there. I did get to take some scenic shots of the Lake where the wedding was held, the wedding couple, and group shots of Bryan and his bunch of friends from High School:

for a friend’s wedding. Here’s the view of Torch Lake from one of the lakehouses we were at last night:

Torch Lake
Michigan is pretty! This is my first trip out to the MidWest or anywhere NOT on the U.S Coasts, and feel like I’m in REAL America; the America I envisioned from reading the Little House on the Prairie collection or watching the Home Alone movies. Bryan and I were also almost always the only two non white people at the grocery stores and at the restaurants, something I noticed almost immediately after we got to the lake. Despite feeling somewhat conspicuous, everyone here has been nothing but friendly and warm. In fact, I started fantasizing about buying a lake house or some farmland out here and living a simple, small town life! Ok, maybe just buying a lake house for summer vacations, for starters…I’m not sure I’m cut out for the harsh Michiganian winters…
Back to our trip: It was very unfortunate that we had to sit out on today’s water activities on Lake Torch as well as miss the rehearsal dinner this evening because Bryan caught some mysterious stomach flu bug (possibly) last night and has been feeling sick all day today. While Bryan slept for most of the day, I spent my time catching up on television, naps, and wedding planning.
Watching your significant other suffer – regardless of severity – is just as painful as going through it yourself. But I’m as thankful as much as he is, that I came out together with him because nothing sucks more than being ill and being alone. Anyway, hopefully he’ll feel a little, if not a whole lot better, so that we can at least attend the wedding celebrations tomorrow and maybe even try to enjoy a little bit of the Michigan lakes!

Just as we’re getting ready to fly out to Michigan to attend a friend’s wedding, I’m reminiscining the wedding of our favorite San Diego couple, Ellen & Matt, which took place just last weekend. Ellen picked out the most beautiful flower bouquets, the cutest cake, and had everything so perfect to go with her great and beautiful personality. Congrats again, my friends!
